"COLOUR FOR THE ARTIST"

               This session included a brief history of colour in the world,  how colour is perceived by the human eye and brain, popular theories on colour, about paints and their qualities, an analysis of colour characteristics and its applications,  basic colour mixing procedures, the use of harmonious and complementary models, some popular and successful colour combinations, and finishing off with a painting in which the individual artist's choice of colour composition was executed.

LIGHT LUNCH MENU

Chicken portions served on a bed of gnocchi pasta and flavoured with a tomato and herb sauce

Mixed Greek salad with a french dressing 

Fresh multi-seed low GI health bread with butter or margerine  

Fresh fruit juice

Bottomless coffee and English or Rooibos tea throughout the day

   Casual sessions  

Ongoing art lessons are offered on a once-a-week basis. The lessons are structured to meet the needs of individuals, and the group sessions are limited to six people at a time. Although the sessions are conducted in a relaxed atmosphere, care is taken to provide information and advice that ensures progress for the individual. The following aspects are given attention: 

  • Practical and technical aspects  Objectives: To develop skills and learn to express through the different media - drawing in pencil, charcoal, conte, pastels et al, painting in oils, watercolors, acrylics and mixed media by choice. Basic approaches and techniques.
  • Art theory   Composition, the design and formal elements, perspective
  • Art history  Relate in a fun way to the history of art
  • Philosophy   Develop your own philosophy about your art.  
         

   Workshops

Workshops are offered at the studio/gallery in Gauteng, South Africa, or at suitable venues worldwide as requested by patrons. Art holidays can also be arranged by request. 

One- to three-day workshops are offered on the following:

  • Oil painting:  Basic course for beginners Learn about the medium and instruments. How to start and finish a painting. Advanced courses: Advanced techniques, theory and visualization, developing your own style
  • Acrylic painting: Basic course for beginners Learn about the medium and instruments. How to start and finish a painting. Advanced courses: Advanced techniques, theory and visualization, developing your own style
  • Watercolor painting: Basic course for beginners Learn about the medium and instruments. Stretching paper, washes etc.  How to start and finish a painting.    Advanced courses: Advanced techniques, theory and visualization, developing your own style.
  • Mixed media: The use of different materials, techniques and concepts in the making of mixed media artwork.
  • Unlocking the creative artist within you: The techniques of obtaining self-knowledge and actualization through the creative process.

All courses and workshops offered are conducted by suitably qualified persons.
